Emirates Steel operates two twin plants based on the ENERGIRON III technology, originally conceived to produce 1,6 Mtpy of hot and cold DRI at 94% of metallization and 2.5% Carbon. Thanks to the Hytemp System, the high-quality Hot DRI is directly charged into the Danieli EAF, allowing the excellent electrical consumption of just 380 kWh/tLS, which is a worldwide benchmark for all modern DRI-based minimills.
Both plants were later revamped at 2 Mtpy of DRI in 2014, with minor modifications carried out in just 1-month time during the annual shutdown; the production was then stabilized at 100% of the enhanced nominal capacity in just 6 months.
Nowadays, thanks to the efficiency, competitiveness, and pursuit of excellence that always characterized the Emirates Steel team, the ENERGIRON DR plants in Abu Dhabi are consistently operating within standard operational availability, producing excellent quality DRI and liquid steel at the lowest OPEX for any DRI-based minimill.
